TROY - The Democrat trying to unseat Rep. Chris Gibson in the Hudson Valley District campaigned outside Troy this afternoon.
Julian Schreibman draws a sharp distinction between his positions on women's reproductive and health issues and those of opponent.
Democrats see an opportunity with the choice of Rep. Paul Ryan as the vice presidential candidate. Ryan has voted against abortion even in cases of rape and incest.
Gibson argues he's more moderate, but his opponent says there's nothing remotely moderate about Gibson's positions.
Gibson was not campaigning in the area Thursday and was unavailable for interview. His campaign says he opposes all late-term abortions and is against the federal government paying for any abortion except for rape, incest or when the life of the mother is in danger.
Schreibman told a friendly group gathered in a Brunswick home that Gibson's positions go far beyond that.
A Gibson campaign press release trumpets him as the third most independent Republican in the House of Representatives.
