The Mayfield School District is currently discussing a merger with the Northville School District.

People living in both districts can make their feelings known in a straw vote, scheduled for next week.

If they approve the proposal, a final and binding vote will take place in late October.

School officials say if the merger goes through, taxes in Mayfield would go down, but if the merger is defeated, they will be forced to cut academic and sports programs.
