Preservation group leading tour of NY, Pa. sites

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (AP) - A national organization dedicated to preserving important archaeological sites in the U.S. is taking a group of history buffs on a tour of French and Indian War battlegrounds in upstate New York and Pennsylvania.
The New Mexico-based Archaeological Conservancy says 32 people are on the weeklong tour that will take them from Buffalo to Lake Champlain to Harrisburg, Pa., and Pittsburgh before ending back in western New York Friday.
The Archaeological Conservancy has offered tours for about 20 years, but organizers say this trip is the first to focus on French and Indian War sites in New York and Pennsylvania. The organization uses proceeds from the paid tours to purchase archaeological sites.
The conservancy group has preserved about a dozen sites across New York, most of them Iroquois village sites.
