ALBANY - With prices now averaging above that $4 mark, anything less seems like a bargain.

One station is currently 15 cents below the average, even though it is offering a service that' has vanished almost everywhere else.

Gas prices go up, that's for sure. Sometimes they come down, usually not as far or as fast as they went in the other direction.

So how can one station in the middle of Albany sell its product 15 cents below the average, while pumping it for you.

We didn't have to search very far to find gas prices above the average. $4.09 for unleaded regular at this station  just off Northway Exit 6.

On the other side of the ledger, this USA station on Central west of the Northway in Colonie was offering regular at $3.959, as long as you fork over cash. .

And then there's this unique case where gas is $3.899 at a former Mobil station now branded ShopRite. It's just down the road from the supermarket's Albany store. You have to show them a Price Plus card in order to get the price, otherwise it's ten cents more at each grade, but the card is free and there's no purchase requirement.

And here's the real head scratcher, the gas is cheaper and they've got people to pump it for you. Full Service only.

They weren't swarming and the uniforms aren't as spiffy, but hey, they were doing windshields here. ShopRite did not want to talk about this today. They're still doing training and call it a soft opening. Yes, Price Chopper has its own discount program and you can save even more although it does require buying groceries for the discount and recently doubled the levels.

Now we have to hope that the suppliers put the brakes on these increases, so that $3.89 no longer seems like a bargain.

The highest price listed for unleaded regular on www.albanygasprices.com is $4.259 a gallon at a Mobil station in Amsterdam.

However, either because prices changed or were misreported, a couple of other listing did not prove to be accurate when we checked today, so look for yourself.
