ALBANY - It's been providing support to families of seriously ill children for 30 years and now, the Ronald McDonald House in Albany, is expanding.

The charity announced plans for a major expansion project today.

It involves adding a third home next to its current facility on South Lake Avenue.

The house offers families a home away from home while their child is being treated at nearby hospitals.

Fred and Fran Hill was the first couple to make those lasting bonds here.

The parents were an inspiration for the first house in 1974 and were on hand for Thursday’s announcement.

The current 16 bedroom facility is at or near capacity most of the time.

This expansion will add nine bedrooms and more than 4,500 square feet of living space.
