ALBANY COUNTY - For only the third time since the 1950's the American Cancer Society is launching a huge, nationwide study and Albany Med has joined forces, to help.

It's called the Cancer Prevention Study 3.

You can participate if you're between the age of 30 and 65 and never have had cancer - basal cell carcinoma is an exception.

You must registration online and then you'll be given an appointment at one of three, upcoming events where you'll sign an informed consent form, complete a survey about your lifestyle and other issues relating to your health,  have your waist measured and a small amount of blood will be taken to study. Once enrolled you'll be sent surveys every few years over the next 20 years.

Albany Med's president and C.E.O. Jim Barba is encouraging all his employees to consider signing on, noting how many of them - have friends and loved ones who've been affected by cancer.
