24K upstate NY utility customers lost power

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - About 24,000 utility customers in eastern New York are still without power after rainstorms packing powerful winds tore through the region.
The outages stretch from New York City's northern suburbs to the Lake George area of the Adirondacks. NYSEG reports about 13,500 homes and businesses are without power electricity Wednesday afternoon, most of them in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties. Most of the other outages from Tuesday's violent weather are in Dutchess County, where 7,000 customers served by Central Hudson Gas and Electric haven't had their power restored.
High winds uprooted trees that brought down utility lines across central and eastern New York, and the National Weather Service reported flash flooding in Greene and Ulster counties. State transportation officials say a stretch of Route 23A in the northern Catskills is closed while crews repair three culverts damaged by flooding.
