QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) - A popular upstate New York balloon festival lifts off the 40th time this week.

The Adirondack Balloon Festival kicks off at 5 p.m. Thursday with opening ceremonies in Crandall Park in Glens Falls featuring the launch of a balloon in the shape of a birthday cake.

Organizers say they expect about 100 balloons to participate in the four-day event, including 13 special shape balloons.

The festival will be held at Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in the Warren County town of Queensbury from Friday through Sunday.
