ALBANY -  Albany Police are investigating the shooting early Wednesday morning of a UAlbany student.

The shooting occurred at Hudson and Quail Streets.

The UAlbany student was 21-year-old Joseph Sheehin who was found with a gunshot wound to his leg and transported to Albany Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The investigation is still ongoing.

NewsChannel13's overnight photographer saw Albany police investigating two gunfire incidents in the area.

Albany Police spokesman Steve Smith says there was an altercation before the shots were fired with no reason given.

The area is filled with college students, so an alcohol fueled street confrontation is certainly a possibility here.

Not far way 18 months ago was the Kegs and Eggs incident, in addition to the murder a few years ago of a UAlbany student at the hands of street troublemakers.
