BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - An inspection has started at the Vermont Veterans Home that will likely determine its future.

The Board of Trustees said the Bennington facility faces decertification because of issues identified during several inspections earlier this year. It faces the possible loss of funding at the end of October from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, more than half of its operating budget.

The Bennington Banner reports the home must correct at least three deficiencies including an alleged assault of a resident by a nurse.

The Board of Trustees was scheduled to meet Wednesday.

Officials from the state Division of Licensing and Protection started their review Tuesday.
