MINDEN - In Amsterdam there are plenty of long-empty buildings that once housed the thriving carpet manufacturing industry.

Even when those companies left for cheaper labor elsewhere, other firms took over a reasonable amount of space, so that guys like 50 year old Bob Motyl weren't very worried about finding work.

But a lot of those buildings are vacant again or torn down and Motyl is having no luck finding a job.

Motyl estimated he has contacted one hundred area employers seeking work. He's received only a couple of interviews but no job.

So Motyl came out to a one day Response Team outreach near Fort Plain.

Various State Labor Department employees worked with him, trying to better shape his resume and advise on job seeking techniques.

Bob is looking for work in electronic technology.

Andrea Slater is trying to find a job as a medical office assistant.

Like Bob, she's been looking for a long time, without success.

"It's been almost two years," Slater said.

She's contacted about 150 employers without getting a job offer.
