Mohican artifacts unearthed during NY road project

TROY, N.Y. (AP) - Work on an Albany-area road has turned up artifacts linked to the Mohican Indians who lived along the upper Hudson River centuries ago.
The Times Union of Albany reports that the significant discovery was made as archaeologists were excavating an area at the South Troy Industrial Park on the Hudson River's east bank.
Officials in the city of Troy say they contacted representatives with the Stockbridge-Munsee Community Band of Mohican Indians in Wisconsin to alert them to the discovery, made during a road-building project at the industrial park. Mohican officials have visited the city to view the artifacts and are discussing the idea of establishing a research center in Troy.
The region stretching along the upper Hudson's east bank is considered part of the Mohican tribe's historic territory.
