KINGSTON - Incumbent Representative Chris Gibson and Challenger Julian Schreibman faced off in their first of three debates, as they two fight for the newly formed 19th Congressional District seat.
The large district includes Greene, Schoharie, Columbia, and parts of Montgomery and Rensselaer Counties in the Capital Region area.
As expected, Medicare took front and center in the debate at a school in Kingston. The two also battled over bi-partisanship and job growth in America.
You could say Schreibman, a Kingston area attorney, had the home-field advantage. He grew up a few minutes from the school where the debate was held and even talked about playing in the school band on the stage where the two sparred on political issues.
Rep. Gibson had a large following though from Columbia County for Wednesday night's packed debate.
The candidates will face off again on October 18th in Albany.
