Judge orders rafting co. to shut down

NORTH CREEK, N.Y. (AP) - A northern New York whitewater rafting company has been ordered to shut down operations while state officials investigate the business.
Thursday's court order comes two weeks after the drowning of a 53-year-old Ohio woman during an Adirondack outing with a guide employed by the North Creek-based Hudson River Rafting Co. Police charged the worker with criminally negligent homicide for allegedly guiding the woman's raft while intoxicated.
The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports that a state judge ordered the company to stop rafting while a lawsuit filed by the Attorney General's Office proceeds. The lawsuit alleges the company repeatedly sent rafts down the Hudson and Indian rivers without licensed guides.
The company's owner and his lawyer aren't commenting on the judge's order shutting down the business.
