ALBANY COUNTY - Whooping cough is now turning up in Albany County.

The Department of Health reports several cases have been diagnosed in the county so far this year, including two in city schools.

Whooping cough, or Pertussis, is a highly contagious respiratory disease.

It causes uncontrollable, violent coughing that makes it hard to breathe.

The county says the infected students have since recovered.
