University at Albany gets moment in presidential spotlight

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The State University of New York at Albany has become part of the presidential campaign.
During Tuesday's debate, Republican challenger Mitt Romney referred to a report prepared by the university's Center for Women in Government & Civil Society.
Asked about pay equity for women, Romney said as governor of Massachusetts he made a concerted effort to find women qualified to serve in his cabinet.
He said he was proud of the 2004 Albany report that showed Massachusetts led the nation with 50 percent of policy leadership positions held by women. Oregon was next at 47.8 percent. New Hampshire was last at 15.2 percent.
Albany, with about 17,500 students, is one of the four university centers that anchor the 64-campus SUNY system.
