ALBANY- The State University of New York Research Foundation says that a scathing audit of questionable spending focuses on "past problems" and the foundation has already put in place its own reforms.

The response is to an audit by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli that cites conflicts of interest, overpayments of contracts that weren't competitively bid and misuse of credit cards that paid for world travel and even hockey tickets and groceries.

DiNapoli says the findings released Monday are proof the research foundation needs far more oversight and failed to correct problems from past audits. DiNapoli says the spending by a few employees cheated taxpayers. The foundation cites a list of accountability measures already in place.

The foundation says its mission is to reclaim public trust.
