Text message use can help reduce network strain during storm

In addition to power outages, phone outages are also a concern.

AT&T says it's added portable generators to cell towers and is checking fuel levels.

Both AT&T and Verizon recommend using text messaging during the height of the storm to avoid straining the network.

Text messages use minimal network resources compared to phone calls and web surfing.
