PITTSFIELD - Thousands are without power right now across the Berkshires.

In Pittsfield, the wind is picking up, and rain is starting to fall, as the outer edges of Hurricane Sandy come in.

The rain has calmed down significantly since Monday afternoon.

Emergency officials are urging residents to avoid being on the roads, and get home as quickly as possible.

The power outages in Berkshire county are currently mainly in rural areas where trees have fallen on power lines.

Officials urge residents to call 211 for non-emergencies, and 911 for emergencies.
