ALBANY - With winter just around the corner, shelters in Albany are kicking off their Code Blue Project.

The project helps transport and shelter homeless people during extreme winter weather.

That's when temperatures or the wind chill drops to ten degrees or less or in the event twelve or more inches of snow are forecast.

Police, various shelters and transportation companies team up for the effort, which runs from November 15 to March 15.

Last year, the Code Blue Project housed 75 single adults over 14 nights.

The program relies on donations.

To contribute, send a donation to the homeless and travelers aide society at 138 Central Avenue in Albany.

Gifts should be marked “Code Blue.”
