Father of child who was shot and killed, now facing rape charge

FORT EDWARD - The father of a child who was shot and killed inside their Fort Edward home is now behind bars on an unrelated charge.

Louis Cota, the father of of 12-year-old Gary Cota who died in June from a single gunshot to the face, has been charged with rape.

According to the State Police, the 36-year-old Cota is charged with rape in the second degree, criminal trespass, and endangering the welfare of a child for an alleged incident in Clinton County.

This summer Cota expressed his frustration with what he calls a lack of progress into the investigation of his son's shooting.

The child was in his room with a 13-year-old when he was shot and killed.
