LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Some of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War were fought 150 years ago this year, and they're the subject of a history conference being held at Siena college.

The Capital District Civil War Round Table's annual conference kicks off Friday afternoon and runs through mid-afternoon Sunday.

This year's conference focuses on the major battles fought throughout 1862, including Shiloh, Antietam and Fredericksburg.

Authors, academics and historians are scheduled to speak at the event, including Christopher Kolakowski, a Civil War expert and the director of the Gen. George Patton Museum at Kentucky's Fort Knox. He says he'll discuss how the North came very close to losing the war in 1862.
