RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - The Department of Defense announced says a 21-year-old Marine from central New York has died in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon says Cpl. Alex Domion of Richfield Springs died Wednesday as a result of a non-combat-related incident in Afghanistan's Helmand.  He was assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The Pentagon says Domion's death is under investigation. No other details have been released.

Domion grew up in Richfield Springs, a rural community on the Otsego-Herkimer county line 60 miles southeast of Syracuse. He enlisted in the Marines in 2009. Family members tell local media outlets that it was his second tour in Afghanistan.

His survivors include his wife, Amber.
