Cecilia Tkaczyk declared victory late election night.
Tkaczyk, a democrat and Duanesburg school board member ran against Republican Assemblyman George Amedore for a new senate seat.
The 46th Senate District was created by Senate Republicans.
It was a close race.
Throughout the night, numbers coming in showed a tight race, often with Amedore ahead
Final numbers have Tkaczyk up by just one 139 votes. She says she would have prefered a wider margin.
This is a closely watched race.
Republicans hold a 33 to 29 majority in the senate. They are fighting to hold that majority. But with this race, and a few others, now it appears that who controls the senate is up in the air.
