NY Environmental Excellence Awards announced

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The Department of Environmental Conservation has named seven organizations as recipients of the annual New York State Environmental Excellence Awards.
    
The awards recognize "innovative programs and outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability, social responsibility and economic viability."
    
Ecovative Design in Albany County was honored for developing a product that uses agricultural waste to make a replacement for Styrofoam packaging.
    
Owens Corning in Delmar was honored for producing environmentally friendly insulation.
    
IBM in East Fishkill was recognized for an innovative wastewater treatment system.
    
Other award recipients are the Monroe County Crime Lab; Solar One's Green Design Lab in New York City schools; the City of Rome's stormwater management program and Schenectady's Golub Corporation, operator of Price Chopper supermarkets for company-wide sustainability programs.
