ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a veteran New York state trooper has been suspended without pay after he was charged with driving while intoxicated when he crashed his personal vehicle on an Albany highway.

State police say 39-year-old Technical Sgt. Gregory Bennett was off duty when he crashed in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 at the Exit 3 off ramp around 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers say Bennett suffered minor facial injuries and was treated at Albany Medical Center.

Bennett is a 13-year member assigned to Communication Section at the agency's Albany headquarters.

Police say he was charged with DWI after a breath test revealed he had a blood-alcohol content of .14 percent, nearly twice the legal limit of .08 percent.

Police didn't know if he has a lawyer.
