SARATOGA SPRINGS - Video Roulette and Craps are the closest thing the Saratoga Casino and Raceway has to table games.
But that could change next year if the state legislature approves expanded gambling as expected.
The governor has said that if it passes, there'll be seven full-fledged casinos in New York.
Saratoga wants to be one of the lucky seven.
"We're unified in making sure that one of these happens and it happens at Saratoga," said Rita Cox, Senior Vice President, Saratoga Casino and Raceway.
The Racino is getting the full support of the city and the county. Both the City Council and the County Board of Supervisors voting Tuesday on resolutions urging the state to name the seven communities before the legislature votes and to make sure Saratoga is one of the seven.
Mayor Scott Johnson said Tuesday, "Saratoga has a proven track record and is shovel-ready for expansion." Johnson continued,"The state must protect host communities like Saratoga or casino gaming will jeopardize the best horse racing in the world."
Most visitors to the Racino are just a short drive away. An expansion to table games and an on-site hotel would change that.
"To be able to expand that reach would be tremendous for everyone," said Cox.
