Computer chip maker GlobalFoundries announced this week they are building a new research and development center and adding 1,000 new jobs.
Thursday the company's
GlobalFoundries will invest $2 billion in what they're calling a Technology Development Center, hinting that this is just the beginning of their expansion plans.
The event was held at the Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering in Albany. GlobalFoundries has 65 scientists there, who are working on tomorrow's technology. But beginning soon, the company's R & D will take place in Malta’s Luther Forest, near the so-called Fab 8 where they'll make silicon wafers.
GlobalFoundries will begin construction on the technology development center in the spring and plans to have it finished in 2014.
