PITTSFIELD - A Mass. State Representative from Berkshire County will not seek to fill Senator John Kerry's seat, should Kerry be confirmed as Secretary of State.

Ben Downing had been considering a run, but in a statement out today, says he will not be a candidate.

The Pittsfield democrat's exit narrows the list of possible senate contenders.

So far, Congressman Ed Markey is the only democrat to announce his intentions.

Other possible democratic candidates include US representatives Michael Capuano and Stephen Lynch.

Former US Senator Scott Brown could run on the republican side.
