KINDERHOOK, N.Y. (AP) - State police are urging people to lock their cars and don't leave valuables in plain sight inside them after receiving numerous reports of thefts in Columbia County neighborhoods.

Troopers reported Sunday that they were investigating numerous thefts that occurred overnight in Kinderhook and Valatie.

Police say the thieves are targeting neighborhood areas where a large number of vehicles can be rummaged through in a short period of time. Items stolen include money, credit cards, checkbooks, laptop computers and clothing.
