“I am outrunning the police, come get me!” was the text message police say a burglar sent a friend while running from troopers in Cobleskill.
Police received a call for a burglary at 113 Baldwin Rd. in the Town of Summit Friday just after 9 p.m. A witness told police two men fled the scene in a dark green pickup that was later spotted traveling along Rt. 10.
Troopers say the driver parked the truck in the area of the Old Summit Country Store and the two suspects, 36-year-old Wayne Swart of Hobart and 18-year-old Devyn Clum of Bloomville, fled on foot. That’s when police say Clum sent the text message to a friend stating that he was running from the police and needed to be picked up.
Officials say Clum was caught first, while Swart was located some time later with the help of DEC Officer Keith Isles and his K-9. After searching the vehicle, police discovered equipment used to break into buildings.
Both Clum and Swart are facing a felony burglary charge, possession of burglar tools and resisting arrest. They were sent to Schoharie County jail.
