Rensselaer County man charged with homicide in early summer crash

TROY – A grand jury has indicted a 21-year-old Rensselaer County man on charges stemming from a drunken driving incident last summer.

Brendan Hoffman faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular manslaughter,  DWI, DWI by the the combined influence of drugs or of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to police, on June 28th, Hoffman and his close friend Christopher Baker were traveling on Cranston Hill Road when an accident occurred.

Baker was thrown from the car and ended up in the bushes on the side of the road and his body was not discovered until five hours later.

Investigators said at the time of the crash that Hoffman's family drove him to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA.  Hoffman is scheduled to be arraigned next week. 

Hoffman has been out on $20,000 bail since September and is expected to be arraigned on this indictment next week.
