HOOSICK - The environmental cleanup is underway following Wednesday’s tanker crash on Route 7 in Hoosick.

After the crash the tanker spilled gasoline and diesel fuel into a stream.

Now state Department of Environmental Conservation officers along with a cleanup contractor are placing absorbent booms in the stream to soak up the spilled petroleum. They will also vacuum and collect any contaminated water and soil.

The crash sparked a massive fire that badly burned the driver. He was rescued by a passing motorist and is now being treated at the Westchester Medical Center burn unit.
