ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Scores of schools are delaying the start of classes and some are closed as a storm dumps several inches of wet, heavy snow from central New York to the Hudson Valley.

The National Weather Service says snowfall totals Wednesday morning range from 3 inches in central New York to 6 inches in the Albany area and communities along the Hudson River south of the city.

Many schools have announced two-hour delays for the start of classes, while some in the Utica area and in other parts of the Mohawk Valley are closed.

Forecasters say the snow will change to rain or snow showers in most eastern areas of the state late Wednesday.
