ULSTER, N.Y. (AP) - State environmental regulators are seeking public comment on plans to cleanup a contaminated former IBM site in the Hudson valley.
The Daily Freeman, of Kingston, reports (http://bit.ly/YEzV57 ) that the state Department of Environmental Conservation has set March 29 as the deadline for written comment on recommendations for removing solid waste and water and soil contamination from the Ulster site now known as TechCity.
IBM was doing mainframe computer testing on the property when the pollution was discovered in 1978. But the extent of the problem wasn't revealed until a proposed zone change for redevelopment required environmental impact statements two years ago.
IBM sold the Ulster County site to a developer in 1998 but remains responsible for the cleanup.
