BOSTON (AP) - U.S. Senate hopeful Stephen Lynch says he wouldn't support any nominee to the Supreme Court who wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, the court ruling legalizing abortion.

The Democratic congressman made the statement in a video on his campaign website.

In the video, Lynch describes himself as "pro-life" but said he doesn't support overturning the landmark 1973 decision.

He said undoing the ruling would simply change the location of abortions from a clinical setting "to one that is much more dangerous for women in crisis."

Lynch, who is facing fellow congressmen Edward Markey in the Democratic primary, has supported an amendment prohibiting abortion coverage for any health insurance product subsidized by the federal government.

A major pro-abortion rights political action committee, NARAL Pro-Choice America, has endorsed Markey.

The primary is April 30.
