LEE - It appears the federal probe into the Lee Police Department is tied to a holiday fund managed by the chief for more than 30 years.
The FBI and state police executed a search warrant at the police station back in November, but have not said why.
The Berkshire Eagle now reports that federal prosecutors are looking into the Laliberte Toy fund.
Chief Joseph Buffis managed the fund from 1979 until it was suspended last year for what he called a 'reorganization'.
The chief has not been charged with any crime.
