ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The renovation of New York state's Capitol building is being recognized by a national contractors group as one of the most significant construction projects of 2012.

The Associated General Contractors of America announced Thursday that the Albany project has received the organization's Alliant Build America Award for best building renovation.

Milford, Mass.-based contractor Consigli Construction Co., was one of 17 firms to receive an Alliant award during the association's annual convention this week in Palm Springs, Calif.

After taking office in 2011, Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the long-running $75 million project to be streamlined and completed earlier than planned. The major work wrapped up last fall. Consigli was responsible for about $49 million of the project.

The renovations included repairing the Capitol's roof and improving the lighting in the ornate Assembly and Senate staircases.
