ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - An 18-year-old man accused of stabbing a trooper patrolling downtown Albany's state government complex has been indicted on attempted murder and other charges.

Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares says Friday a grand jury indicted Eric Green on charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, aggravated assault on a police officer and two counts of robbery.

Authorities say Trooper Rodney Smith was working Sunday at the Empire State Plaza when he was approached by Green, who said he was new in town and needed help. They say that as Smith was checking his identity, Green stabbed him in the neck and ran off with Smith's radio after unsuccessfully trying to take his gun.

Green is being held without bail. The Albany County Public Defender's Office couldn't be reached for comment.

Smith was released from a hospital Tuesday.
