Senate GOP eyes tax cuts; Assembly seeks Dream Act

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York's Senate Republicans want to cut tax for small businesses while the Assembly's Democratic majority is calling for a $25 million "Dream Act" to help immigrant children and young adults.

Senate Republicans would eliminate corporate taxes for small businesses over four years, provide a 10-percent exemption on their income taxes, and eliminate the corporate tax for manufacturers.
 
They cite rising revenues to pay for cuts they say will stimulate jobs and the economy.
 
Assembly Democrats want to add the $25 million to the Tuition Assistance Program for illegal immigrants under its Dream Act. They say that would assist young people brought to the United States by family and help the economy prosper.
 
They're part of the legislative responses to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's budget proposals.
