BERKSHIRE COUNTY - State police in Mass. are alerting residents in 16 Berkshire County towns about a recent wave of break-ins.

Burglars have hit homes in at least seven communities, with the town of Richmond hit particularly hard.

Police say the break-ins have all occurred during the day at unoccupied homes.

Investigators say the thieves knock on people's doors and if someone is home, they come up with an excuse like asking for directions.

Two suspects have been arrested, but the break-ins are still occurring.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police.
