NY AG examines mother's bequest to killer son

GRANVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - The New York state Attorney General's Office is attempting to stop a convicted murderer from inheriting hundreds of thousands of dollars from his mother's estate.
NewsChannel 13's media partners at the Post-Star report that Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has stayed settlement of the estate of Marilyn Roberts of Granville in Washington County. She was 79 when she died in August 2010.
Roberts was the mother of William Burdick, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after admitting he killed his 17-year-old niece in September 1994. Burdick, now 46, is serving a 25-years-to-life prison sentence.
Court records show that up to $500,000 of Roberts' estate was to be left for Burdick after his release from prison.
The victim's family wants some of the money to go to her son, who was an infant when his mother was killed.
