Assemblyman facing federal fraud charges

ALBANY – A state assemblyman is facing new fraud charges.
Assemblyman William Boyland has been indicted on federal charges of mail fraud in connection with a scheme to defraud the state by submitting false vouchers for travel expense and per diem payments.
Federal prosecutors say Boynand sought reimbursement for expenses for days he claimed to be in Albany on legislative business when he was really somewhere else. Records show he was paid tens of thousands of dollars in mileage expense and per diem payments.
Boyland was already facing bribery and extortion charges.
If convicted, Boyland faces a maximum sentence on each fraud charge of 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and restitution.
