COEYMANS - State Assemblyman Steve Katz (R - Yorktown), a member of the Assembly Committee on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, is facing marijuana possession charges after troopers say they found a small bag of pot inside his car during a traffic stop on the Thruway Thursday morning.

"I will not let this incident impede my public service and my calls for real mandate relief, a better economic climate, and better services for those in need in New York," Katz said in a written statement issued to media Friday afternoon.

"This should not over shadow the work I have done over the years for the public and my constituency," he continued. "I am confident that once the facts are presented that this will quickly be put to rest."

Katz is due in Coeymans Town Court March 28th.
