BALLSTON SPA - The Board of Supervisors in Saratoga County has rejected the nomination of a 22-year-old recent Siena college graduate to a $62,000 a year position to head the animal shelter.

The vote came after a contentious meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

Some who spoke at the meeting said Christina Abele is too young and inexperienced.

Others spoke in favor of her.

Abele would have been responsible for an $830,000 annual budget, 13 employees and dozens of volunteers.

She is the daughter of a Halfmoon builder and her father is a longtime Republican Party contributor.
