NISKAYUNA – An alleged bank robber didn’t get too far thanks to an off duty police officer from nearby Schenectady.

Police say the officer noticed a man with a towel wrapped around his face, running from the Trustco Bank in the area of State Street and Balltown Road, Wednesday afternoon.

The off-duty Schenectady officer was able to give Niskayuna Police a description of the man, and the house he fled to on Winston Place.

Officers took him into custody as he tried to escape.
