WILTON - Mary Tozier is like a kid in a grocery store.
The Malta woman has been waiting for 6 or 7 years for Healthy Living Market to open up closer to her home.
Once or twice a month, she'd drive all the way to their Burlington store to get fresh and organic foods.
"I have coolers in the car, packing everything, bringing it home and trying to make sure it stays fresh," said Tozier before picking up a pint of organic raspberries.
But today, her commute got a whole lot shorter. Healthy Living Market took the wraps off its new 35-thousand square foot store in the Wilton Mall.
The owners of the store say they're confident that their selection of healthy foods from local farms and suppliers will be embraced by local people.
"We're just an exciting, fun, fabulously delicious place to be," said Katy Lesser, founder and owner of the market.
Lesser founded the company in 1,200 square feet of space in Burlington 26 years ago. She calls the new store "an event."
Staff offers demos, and product lessons, several times each day, and they'll put on cooking classes. They believe that a well-informed customer is good for business.
The owners say they're aware that the grocery business around here is competitive, but say that by sticking to what makes them popular in Burlington, they'll quickly win over customers here. They won Mary Tozier over six or seven years ago.
"I've been waiting for them to finally open here, so today is a great day," said Tozier.
Lesser says the mall location gives them what they were looking for: easy access to the highway and plentiful parking.
The Healthy Living Market and Cafe is open every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
