ALBANY - New York is getting a new helicopter that costs four times as much as the one it is replacing. Our waste watchers team has learned that the new state budget contains twelve and a half million dollars for state police to purchase a new helicopter. The new helicopter replaces one that was damaged in a crash last year. State police say the old chopper was purchased in 2001 for three million dollars. We asked a spokesman if Governor Cuomo would be using the new helicopter. This morning we were told that he may be using it. The spokesman called back late today to clarify that statement; saying that the helicopter was not purchased for Governor Cuomo's use, but that they could not rule out the possibility that the governor would use it at some point.
