MALTA - Girls in 4th through 8th grade gathered at the TEC-SMART campus in Malta on Saturday to learn about career opportunities.

The program is meant to encourage girls to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Women who have found success in science and technology fields discussed opportunities with the girls and their parents.

“When I was going through engineering school, I saw very few women going through the same career as I was. I think engineering has always been a male dominant field. So, I think it’s very important to make sure all women and girls have the same opportunity,” said Veronica Barner from GE’s Renewable Energy Leadership Program.

Time Warner Cable sponsored the event.
