State Police now believe two drownings in area rivers last week both involved alcohol.

Police tell our media partners at the Post Star that both victims had been drinking for several hours before they fell into two rain-swollen rivers.

Richard Kelley of Whitehall died after he was pulled under on the Mettawee River on June 29.

The next day, Massena resident Brian Cromie disappeared in the Hudson River in Lake Luzerne during a rafting trip.

The bodies of both men were recovered last Wednesday after days of searching.
